2011 International Council
Date: Sunday, June 12 - Monday, June 20, 2011
The 2011 International Council marks the Museum’s “Next” chapter. We will tour the renewed Museum, be enchanted and surprised at the special venue dinner and enjoy home hospitality in Tel Aviv. From there we will travel to Prague where we will be given private access to Prague’s historic sights and great architecture.


 

Chicago
Date: Wednesday, May 18 - Friday, May 20, 2011
The American Friends of the Israel Museum is delighted to offer a three-day art and architecture tour of Chicago. As is the trademark of all AFIM trips, our program will be packed with exclusive entrée into some of the city’s premier private collections. We will be joined by James S. Snyder, Anne and Jerome Fisher Director of The Israel Museum and Suzanne Landau, Yulla and Jacques Lipchitz Chief Curator of the Arts.


 

Egypt: Luxor and Cairo
Date: Wednesday, May 12 - Saturday, May 15, 2010
Following the International Council in Jerusalem, seventy-one friends travelled on to Egypt to visit the ancient sites of Luxor and Cairo. In Luxor, the group visited the Karnak and Luxor Temples, the Valleys of the Kings and Queens, including by special permission Nefertari’s Tomb, arguably the most beautiful in Egypt. In Cairo, the group was the first to be allowed entry into the Maimonides Synagogue since its restoration was completed in March, and visited the Pyramids, the Sphinx and the Solar Boat, among other wondrous sites.

2010 International Council
Date: Friday, May 7 - Thursday, May 12, 2011
Over 500 participants from 15 countries gathered in Jerusalem for five unforgettable days, including the Museum re-dedication following the first major renewal of its campus since its founding in 1965. Participants enjoyed a sneak peak at the new exhibition galleries and the site-specific Anish Kapoor work "Turning the World Upside Down, Jerusalem". The program concluded with a festive evening celebrating the Museum’s 45th birthday on May 11.


 

Petra
Date: Wednesday, May 5 - Thursday, May 6, 2010
Prior to the International Council in Jerusalem, a group of seventy international friends enjoyed an overnight visit to Jordan. Stops were made at Mt. Nebo and Madaba to see ancient mosaics, followed by Wadi Rum, the set for Laurence of Arabia, where the group enjoyed a traditional Bedouin dance performance and feast for dinner. The highlight of the trip was the rose red Nabataean city of Petra. The group was led by expert guides through the spectacular Siq and on to El Khazneh – The Treasury, temples, elaborate royal tombs and much more.

International Executive Council in St. Moritz
Date: Friday, January 15 - Monday, January 18, 2010
The International Executive Council (IEC) Weekend in St. Moritz was planned and organized by Alberto Sabbadini, Honorary President of our Italian Friends. Over 50 participants enjoyed all that the area had to offer, including visits and dinners in private homes and a horse drawn sleigh ride to lunch.

IEC Hamburg
Date: Thursday, January 14 - Sunday, January 17, 2010
The annual International Executive Committee Meeting took place in Hamburg, Germany. Sonja Lahnstein, President of the German Friends of the Israel Museum prepared a truly outstanding program which included a special visit to the Israel Museum exhibition "Marc Chagall: Life Lines" at the Bucerius Kunst Forum.

Art and Heritage Weeking in Budapest

A group of 23 international friends enjoyed a weekend in Budapest, coinciding with the showing of "Heritage of the Holy Land: Treasures from The Israel Museum, Jerusalem" at Budapest's Museum of Fine Arts.

International Executive Council in Rio and Sao Paulo
Date: Friday, February 27 - Wednesday, March 4, 2009
Spending time in both Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo, fifty-one participants from eight countries enjoyed a very full program in Brazil organized by Evelyn Ioschpe and Chella Safra.

Post-Council Trip to Istanbul
Date: Thursday, June 8 - Monday, June 12, 2006
Istanbul was extraordinary, with forty people from seven countries. Participants enjoyed private visits to the major sights, and museums, as well as dinner and in private homes and a dinner cruise on the Bosphorus.

Post-Council Trip to Moscow
Date: Wednesday, June 4 - Sunday, June 8, 2008
Following the International Council, 35 participants traveled on to Moscow for four days of Russian art and history.

International Executive Council Rome
Date: Friday, February 29 - Monday, March 3, 2008
Our Italian Friends organized a full weekend that attracted 110 participants from twelve countries. Participants enjoyed visits to palazzos, private collections and a concert at Palazzo Sacchetti.
